Kassutronics KS20 Filter

This was one of my first filers. It’s based on the famous Korg MS 20 design. I believe it’s based on the late design by Korg. I’ve been looking into filter designs a lot lately and this one is really nice. A good description can be found on Kassutronics site: https://kassu2000.blogspot.com/2019/07/ks-20-filter.html

He based the filter on a design by René Schmitz. René did a lot of reverse engineering to find out how the filter in the Korg worked. Most of the MS20 filter design in eurorack are based of the schematics René posted. https://www.schmitzbits.de/ms20.html. There is a nice write up by Tim Stinchcombe about the korg filters. If your into some more background stories check out his website too https://www.timstinchcombe.co.uk/index.php?pge=korg

I enjoy this filter it can scream a lot. The only thing I didn’t like is the panel. I like to have had a black panel for this one but that doesn’t seem to be available. If anyone does know where to find a black panel for this please let me know. If you order this on Kassutronics site make sure to peel of the panel protector a lot of people have mailed him the text looks faded. The protector needs peeling off.

I do have a second one in my rack that is based of Kassutronics schematics and made by a good friend of mine. So there are a lot of MS 20 filters out there I think it might even be the most build filter in eurorack.

Difficulty to build: Medium, Good manual

Erica Synths BBD Delay/Flanger

It’s been awhile since I’ve build this one. I don’t use it that often in patches. I do need more effects in my rack so it’s kinda strange I don’t use this that much. I have to look it up if it still needs calibrating but the sound it makes doesn’t really get to me. Maybe I will update this post if I have played with it more or when i sold it. Maybe I need to change the led’s to diodes for more overdrive.

Difficulty to build: Hard (or medium if you are skilled). It has multiple pcb’s and not the best build manual.

Soundforge Braids

Open for offers

I love these Braids VCO. The original design is by Mutable Instruments. Soundforce.nl have made it into a THT version with a 12bit DAC. The DAC does sound great for being only 12 bits. It functions like the normal Braids, it even looks the same but is far less hard to build, no SMD parts on this one. It needs a blue pill (Arduino on steroids) . It does requeir some skill to program it. I build five of these, and open for offers on one or two of them. It was just fun to build.

Difficulty to build: Hard. You need to program a blue pill.

Jakplugg Typhoon

This module is a Mutable Instruments Clouds on steroids . I haven’t build this module myself. When Beads came out these came on the second hand market for quite acceptable prices. So I bought one. I’m still figuring out how and when to use it. But I know I really like the reverb on it. It’s build by Lotek_HQ that I could only find a Instragram page of. But the design for the typhoon is done by Jakplugg.

I changed the knob’s. need to make new pictures.

Difficulty to build: Don’t know didn’t build it.. bought it. (SMD, Hard)

Timo Rozendal Thomas Henry’s Bass++

This is one of the modules I always wanted to have. Just because I have read the book from Thomas Henry before I started on my DIY eurorack journey. This module is designed by Timo Rozendal based on the Thomas Henry design from his book. From the little contact I had with Timo he really seems a nice guy. This module can deliver anything from bassdrum’s to tom sound and anything in between.

Difficulty to build: Easy to medium depending on your skill

Erica Synths VCA

You can’t have enough VCA thay all said. Well this one is a dual VCA with a mixed output. The VCA it self I do like and use it a lot in my patches. This was one the the DIY version of Erica product I did like to build. The spacing of the components is fine one this one. I have four or five of them in my rack. Not a lot to say it’s a good VCA.
